Login Page & Authentication

Hi, im a newbie on the iphone platform and i want to create a simple login screen with 2 text fields, one each for Username and Password.
I can figure out the creation of the screen myself but i have no idea whatsoever on how to validate it using a login() that i want to use. I want to create a database of existing users and only check if the entered username & password are valid. Any suggestions on how to build the database and validate credentials? Plz guide me to any tutorials that may help me.
